Journalist groups will investigate cases of Rafiq Tagi and Avaz Zeynalli
Project of the journalist "Preventive Response Group” was presented today in the Institute of Reporters Freedom and Safety. Such project prevent threats against journalists and investigate cases of violence against them, began in Azerbaijan for the first time. The project entitled "Proactive Response Group" is being implemented by the Institute of Reporters Freedom and Safety, under the aegis of the Fund to Protect Journalists and freedom of speech, with grant support of the Open Society Institute - Assistance Foundation Azerbaijan. The goal of the project is to create safety system for media, to prevent threats to life, health, free journalistic creativity. For this purpose, the group creates a preventive response (PGR) - a mobile unit of the Institute Reporters Freedom and Safety (RATI), consisting of 2-5 qualified professionals (former law enforcement officer, journalist, lawyer, medical practitioner), which will perform the following tasks: - To prevent life threatening, the employee of the media, - To investigate the killings, beatings, abductions, intimidation of the media and the moral and psychological pressure on them, - conduct an investigation on the fact of the arrest of journalists. To achieve this goal, the PRG will establish close contacts with law enforcement agencies, community organizations and the media. In its work PRG will be supported by society, issue press releases, hold briefings and press conferences. Two PRG to investigate the murder of the journalist Rafiq Tagi and the arrest of the editor of "Khural" newspaper Avaz Zeynalli , have been created. The first results of investigation will be published by the end of December. |
